About

About Me

Welcome to my website, where you can learn a little bit more about me and my approach.

I’m Claire Cavos-Felps, a Licensed Professional Counselor with 15 years of experience and a specialist in perinatal mental health — pregnancy, postpartum, and the identity shifts that come with becoming a parent.

I work from an Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) framework: rather than trying to eliminate hard thoughts and feelings, we build your capacity to hold them and still move toward the life you want.

I received my Masters Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from The George Washington University. I am an active therapist and my goal is to create a collaborative relationship that fosters growth and allows us to change the relationship you have with the things that cause you pain. Therapy is not about fixing you, it is about giving you space to shape who you want to be.

Whether you were referred to me by another professional, friend or through an internet search, this website will help you learn more about my training, areas of expertise and approach to psychotherapy, and clinical training and supervision.

Please contact me if you have additional questions or concerns which are not addressed here.  I look forward to hearing from you.

I am currently accepting new patients for in-person and virtual sessions.

I take a HAES approach, and I am an ally to BIPOC and LGBTQ+ folks as well as members of the kink community.  I offer a safe space to process and explore your identity.

Treatment

I can help you with a variety of current and past struggles including postpartum depression and anxiety, depression, and mindfulness

Postpartum Depression, Anxiety and OCD
Depression

If you are struggling to conceive, feelings stressed during your pregnancy, or feeling overwhelmed with your new role as a parent, I can help. You are not alone, and finding someone to talk to is the first step to feeling better!

We all struggle from time to time with new roles and life circumstances. If you have been feeling disconnected from activities you usually enjoy, struggling to go to work or school or lacking motivation, I would like to talk to you more about how we help you show up fully for the life you want

Mindfulness

To live mindfully means to become more aware of patterns of behavior and how to take steps towards your goals. By increasing mindfulness skills, we are able to change the control our thoughts and feelings have over us. We get the freedom to choose
